Unlike adults, young children do not know how to be afraid of heights. Paradox, but all children still appear at an early agefearto fall. At the same time, they still do not understand that a fall from a height can be much more dangerous.
This was stated by American psychologists Kari Kretsch and Karen Adolf after they conducted an interesting experiment. It was attended by 37 children of 14 months of age who were asked to walk along a bridge 76 cm long of different widths above the gap between the two surfaces. Moreover, each time the height of the bridge was either too big for a child of that age (71 cm), or, on the contrary, too small (17 cm).

It turned out that the children were frightened not by the height of the bridge, but by its width, in those cases when the bridge was narrow. As for the height, the children did not pay attention to it at all. Psychologists have concluded that children of this age do not yet associate height with danger to life. Researchers are interested in the age at which babies become aware of the difference in height. Psychologists intend to conduct experiments further, increasing the age of children and the height of the bridge.
