A newborn baby cannot yet hold toys or play, but it can be boring and lonely, if you do not pay attention to it during its wakefulness ... How can you play with a crumb?
“My baby is only two weeks old, but he often does not sleep during the day. I heard that games are important for kids. Advise how you can “play” with such a small one. ”
Penelope Lich, a child psychologist, responds.
Although a small child cannot yet hold toys or take part in games, he will be bored and lonely if he is ignored during most of his waking period. You can not expose your baby to such stress, so as not to allow his brain to develop normally.
But you do not need to feel guilty for the fact that you can not entertain him every minute of wakefulness. If he behaves peacefully and does not cry, then he is not bored and not lonely. If you keep jumping around with a rattle or sing songs to him, you can stop him from resting. Of course, you can hug the baby, coo over him, smile at him and this will only benefit the child.
There are three main ways to stimulate and develop newborn baby.
The greatest interest in newborn babies is the consideration of things and surrounding objects. The best "toys" at that age are all that surrounds the baby. Most newborns cannot take their eyes off black-and-white patterns or moving devices, books and bright cardboard. It is not necessary to buy expensive toys at this age. Try inserting a few sheets of cardboard in contrasting colors between the child’s bed partitions or tie colored ribbons to them. Make a cardboard turntable and hang it over the child. You can attach various bright, eye-catching objects to it. The child will observe with interest how objects are moved. Such a “spectacle” will stimulate his development and will not let him be bored, just like if you cooed, talked or danced with him.
