Handwriting child. Like a chicken paw

Handwriting child. How chicken paw?

Before school, you bought beautiful notebooks with bright covers for your child, a case with multi-colored handles - and from the first days of your studies your first grader suddenly discovered that these new “toys” had become a real instrument of torture for him. Why is it easy for some children to write a letter, and for others to master the skills of writing speech is a torment? And where does bad handwriting come from?

In pursuit of beauty
Writing lessons in the first grade of school I remember as a complete nightmare. Monstrously clumsy letters were hardly connected in curved lines. After the three in the quarter I had to go back to the hooks and sticks. Calligraphy I overcame with grief in half. But my handwriting is still bad. My eldest child went to school - and the nightmare repeated on a tripled scale. Heredity? But people involved in graphology (the science of handwriting), argue that the actual handwriting (bad or good) is not inherited - some features of temperament that are reflected in the manner of writing can be inherited. So what is the reason for the difficulties with the letter?

There may be several. I will try to talk about the most common. But first you need to understand what, in fact, bothers you - just an ugly handwriting or numerous blots, mistakes, mixed up letters?

If you are worried solely because of beauty, then the trouble is not so great. In the end, the most important thing is that the words are read correctly and there are no grammatical errors in the text. Aesthetics - the tenth case. For example, in most English-speaking countries, the notion of “beautiful handwriting” has long been abandoned - everyone there karabyat, as it is necessary, in semi-typed letters - if only it can be read. Only short notes are written by hand - the main written work is done on a computer. But in our schools, beautiful handwriting is still in the price - therefore, we still have to take care of beauty. What can cause bad handwriting among undergraduates?

Oddly enough, the excessive zeal of parents trying to teach a child to write as early as possible is at three or four years. Moms and dads are very happy that the baby does everything, hoping to make his first school year easier. And they do not know that they hopelessly spoil the handwriting of their child.

“Before” does not mean “better”
This is the conclusion that Lena Danilova came to - a well-known teacher, author of numerous books and articles on the early development of children. She warns:“Children, having learned a letter at an early age, quickly spoil the handwriting due to the fact that the hand has not yet been settled. Even if letters are beautiful from the very beginning, it is impossible to consolidate good handwriting as a skill because of the unreality of daily intensive activities with the kid ... Handwriting, even if it was quite tolerable at the time of training, quickly deteriorates and is fixed in this form as a skill. After two or three years, the child will come to school, and he will be painfully retrained during all the primary classes. ”

And hardly retrain, I note from myself. What conclusions can be drawn from this? If you want your child to have no problems with calligraphy at school, then, of course, you need to prepare him for the letter in advance. But not with the help of writings. For the development of fine motor skills are great modeling clay, drawing and playing with the designer. To study spelling - reading and classes with cubes Zaitsev.Well, if you really want so much that a preschooler can write down his thoughts and impressions, write fairy tales (in general, join the literary work), then you should teach him ... to type. True, Danilov notes, a small child should not sit at the computer screen for more than 10–15 minutes a day. But a preschooler will hardly have enough patience for more than ten minutes to poke fingers at the keys.

When I told about the findings of Danilova to my colleague, she confirmed that this is absolutely true. Her daughter, a very smart and developed girl, learned to write “in written” years at four. Now my employee’s daughter is ten. She is a great student, takes prizes at olympiads and ... scares her parents with her notebooks, written in sloppy, clumsy handwriting. Smart kid with bad handwriting? Oh, God forbid, for all parents of schoolchildren this would be the biggest problem.

Taming the naughty pen
(5 tips for parents of preschoolers and younger students)
1. The main thing in the letter is well-developed fine motor skills. If you want your child to handle well, you first need to develop hand coordination.Drawing (especially shading shapes in coloring books), modeling, appliqué, games with a designer (like Lego sets containing many small details) are not only interesting, but also extremely useful lessons.

2. When practicing writing, pay attention to the rules of "working hygiene". Is your child sitting at the table correctly? A crooked posture can later cause spinal problems. Watch and with what force your child presses on the pen while writing. If the tip of the pen barely touches the paper, then it is worthwhile to do with the baby a general strengthening gymnastics. Very useful for strengthening the hands of the old game "rock-paper-scissors". If the baby, on the contrary, presses too hard on the handle (so that the handle breaks and the paper breaks), then a relaxing massage from the hands and shoulder girdle will help.

3. Does the child have a relationship with a ballpoint pen? Offer him to write alternately with a pencil, gel pen, felt-tip pen. It is very useful to practice writing with a good old pen. In the end, splurge on a beautiful ink pen with a soft gilded pen.Such a luxurious gift can spur the interest of the child to the letter. In addition to the pen you can buy some beautiful notebooks. (Not notebooks! Notebooks are something reminiscent of school duties, and notebooks are just a nice gift.) Let your child write at least a couple of lines a day in a new notebook, for example, describe his most pleasant impressions of the day.

4. If the child incorrectly prescribes and connects the elements of the letters, try to return to the basics - again practice with him to write sticks and hooks, and then combine them into letters. (In childhood, this technique helped me a great deal in taming the mean "H" and "U".)

5. Pay attention to how clearly your student keeps the line. Letters should not get out of the line, "jump." If your child has problems with obeying the line, it’s not a sin to put lines in a notebook with a black pencil. You can right in the notebook mark the beginning and end of the line. In the end, draw a thin pencil the contours of the letters.

A pen ... good for health
When I was preparing to defend a university degree, I had the opportunity to spend a few weeks in the reading room of the Historical Library. It was 1991, the laptops were then a wonder, so I had to work in the old fashioned way: to rewrite the quotes necessary for the work by hand into a notebook. After two or three hours, the work turned into torture - the hand literally fettered from pain, it was necessary to make forced pauses. And time was running out. Suddenly, a way out was found - on the fifth or sixth day of work, I took with me into the library not a ballpoint pen, but an automatic one, with replaceable ink cartridges, presented to me by someone of my acquaintances. It turned out that you can write with a pen at least the whole day - the hand did not get tired at all. And, what's funny, even my, to put it mildly, not perfect handwriting in the “feather” version looked ... nobler, or what? Yes, and read better.

Why do letters hurt hands? This nuisance has its own name - writing spasm (writing cramp or graphospasm) and arises due to the uneven load on the muscles of the arm and body as a whole. Writing spasm can manifest as pains in the hand and aching pain in the muscles of the back, shoulder or neck. If a penis spasm arises from quite grown-up people who have long learned to write, then what can we say about babies, just mastering this skill? Sometimes it happens that a child suffering from writing spasm, pain begins at the very thought of sitting down at a notebook. In this case, of course, it is worthwhile to trace whether the child is sitting at the table doing the writing.

Correct posture when writing
To make it easy and convenient for your student to write, you need to make sure that he observes the rules of “writing hygiene”. The child should sit at the table straight, head slightly tilted, legs bent at a right angle, the soles fully touch the floor.
The left hand (if, of course, your schoolchild is right-handed) lies on the table parallel to its edge. She pushes the notebook as the lines are filled, but the middle of the notebook is always directed towards the middle of the chest, and the notebook itself is tilted to the left. The handle should lie on the upper phalanx of the middle finger, supported by the thumb and forefinger. The thumb is slightly higher than the index finger. The hand rests on the little finger and edge of the palm. Middle and ring fingers are perpendicular to the edge of the table. The distance from the tip of the pen to the index finger is 1.5–2.5 centimeters. The wrist of the right hand moves freely, but the elbow does not detach from the table.

But another very important point - what the child writes. In today's schools have already forgotten about such an exotic, like a pen. But if you want to develop a clear handwriting for your child, the ink pen may be indispensable.

The most interesting conclusions about the dangers of ballpoint pens and the benefits of feathers are made by the Russian Vladimir Bazarny, in the past - a pediatric surgeon, now dealing with the issues of schoolchildren's health and educational hygiene.
He believes that forty years ago the Ministry of Education of the then USSR made a serious mistake. It was then that classes in calligraphy were abolished, based on the rhythm of plastic effort and relaxation. Instead, a new style of writing “under a ballpoint pen” was developed - unseparable and non-pushing.
The most obvious consequence of this step was a sharp deterioration in the handwriting of children. If the problem consisted only in the beauty of notebooks, then there would be nothing to specifically discuss.

But it's not just aesthetics. It turns out that in the process of writing, not even the muscles of the hand are most fatigued, but the entire muscular system of the body — the back, the obliques, the shoulder girdle. The conclusion made by a Russian doctor is that a letter with a ballpoint pen, which involves constant muscle tension, and not alternation of tension and relaxation, is detrimental to the physical health of younger schoolchildren. And not only physical. According to school teachers with many years of experience, after the calligraphy classes were abolished, the mental characteristics of schoolchildren changed ... more often inattentive, unbalanced children with unstable mentality began to meet.

So we got to you with the connection features of handwriting with the work of the brain.

The main body is the head!
Many people believe that the disgusting handwriting is just a consequence of the carelessness, lack of comprehension and laziness of a child. But it is not. The main body responsible for the letter is not the hand, but ... the head. In order to learn to write, it is necessary not only the relationship of thinking and fine motor skills of the hand, but also the ability to translate the information contained in the brain into a certain system of signs. Therefore, problems associated with the mastery of written speech can signal violations of the brain. Just do not be afraid. Most often, it is not about serious pathologies, but about certain features of the brain organization.

You probably know that each hemisphere of the brain is engaged in its own “type of work”.
Simply put, left hemisphere- abstract-logical (namely, it is responsible for learning to read and write),right- figurative.

Left - logic, right - intuition. The left one commands the right half of the body, and vice versa. At the same time, the left hemisphere usually dominates, which is why the leading hand of most people is the right. And some features of inter-hemispheric interactions can affect learning to write.

For example, difficulties may be experienced by left-handers (especially retrained) and the so-called ambidextras - people who possess both hands equally well. Moreover, it turns out that not only the leading hand can influence how well the writing skills are formed. In some psychology studies ambidextras also include right-handed people with leading left ear, eye, or foot. And such children, by the way, also face difficulties in learning to write. (It was then that I understood the reason for my first school failures — I was just left-handed!)

However, the difficulties encountered in left-handers and ambidexters, as a rule, are easily overcome. There is a much more serious problem. Called she"Disgrafiya"and happens to be accompanied by dyslexia - difficulties in the perception of the printed text. The reason for dysography and dyslexia is a violation of neural connections that transmit information between the hemispheres of the brain.

Handwriting dysgraphics - not just horror, but horror, horror! Curved stitches and gnarled letters - it's not so bad. Words can be written in a mirror image, the letters are confused or missed, the distances between the words are uneven, a monstrous number of errors, blots and corrections.

The most unpleasant thing is that teachers are often recorded as dysgraphic children as hopeless fools, considering them to be incapable of learning. Indeed, it is much more difficult to learn. But at the same time, dyslexics and dysgraphics often turn out to be not only more stupid, but even much smarter than other children. Many experts believe that if people who successfully combine the work of both hemispheres of the brain have two-dimensional vision, then the perception of dyslexics and dysgraphics is three-dimensional. But, possessing this unique quality, they often do not know how to use it. So they grow out of them or geniuses (for example, Albert Einstein,Winston Churchill, Hans Christian Andersen, and Thomas Edison were disgraphs), or ... squeezed by the school, not self-confident people. By the way, the same Einstein was considered impassable stupid at school. And to dysgraphics Lyndon Johnson, the president of the USA, modern English is obliged by the expression “o’key”: he put the visa on the documents “OK” - “everything is correct”. But the words “all correct” begin not with “oy” and “kei”, but with “hey” and “si” ...

But still, dysgraphia is a serious problem that interferes with normal learning and is directly related to the peculiarities of the brain. Therefore, in order to get rid of this “written disability”, you will most likely need to show your child to specialists - a speech therapist, a psychologist or a neurologist.

By the way, many modern authorities recommend that children with disgrafics learn computer skills as soon as possible. First, the letter with both hands develops fine motor skills and inter-hemispheric interactions of the brain. Secondly, text editors are usually equipped with automatic literacy verification systems - paying attention to the words underlined with a red line, the child will remember the correct spelling.Thirdly, having learned to handle the keyboard, the student will be able to overcome the inferiority complex due to the inability to write quickly and beautifully (if, of course, this complex exists).

If a century ago, when only the first typewriters appeared, psychologists shouted that the brain of people drumming on the keys with both hands changes irreversibly. Perhaps this was a rational grain. People tend to change at all - and not necessarily for the worse.

To be honest, I am happy that today we do not have a lot to write by hand. And for our children this skill will be at all tertiary. Now I look at the computer screen, my fingers automatically gain these lines. And it does not matter that I do not know how to draw beautiful letters - the main thing is that there should be a sense in these letters.
