Caesarean section: necessity or desire

Caesarean section: necessity or desire?

Here before, beauty was: it came out into the field, between a bed of beets and two more sheaves of wheat, bore itself quietly and forth: work does not wait.

Moms were healthier before, but there were more problems during childbirth. Glory to medicine - now we are not giving birth in the fields, and we can choose the conditions and methods based on fantasy and finance. However, there is in addition to our wishes and ideas such a nuance as the recommendations of the doctor.

Natural childbirth is precisely what is called, because it is natural, which means it is most suitable for both the woman in labor and the child. A cesarean section, whatever it is common / fashionable - after all, surgical intervention in the human body (which affects two bodies at once, or even more), and for such intervention there must be appropriate indications, which simply cannot be ignored.

According to WHO, more than 30% of women give birth with a caesarean section for one reason or another, and the negative outcome of the operation is less than 1%.

So, what is the process itself: it is abdominal surgery, in which the newborn is removed through an incision in the abdominal wall of the uterus. The list of indications for a planned operation has long been approved by world medicine:

  • The discrepancy between the size of the pelvis of a woman and the size of the child
  • Placenta previa - The placenta is located above the cervix, blocking the exit paths for the baby.
  • Medical complications that interfere with natural childbirth (for example, fibroids in the cervix)
  • Threatened uterine rupture (scar on the uterus from previous deliveries)
  • Diseases not related to pregnancy, in which natural childbirth poses a threat to the health of the mother (diseases of the cardiovascular system, kidneys; retinal detachment in history)
  • Pregnancy complications that threaten the mother’s life during childbirth
  • Pelvic presentation or lateral position of the fetus
  • Multiple pregnancy
  • Genital herpes at the end of pregnancy (the need to avoid contact of the child with the genital tract)

If during natural childbirth there is a threat to the health of the mother or child, the emergency caesarean section is prescribed for the parturient:

  • Sluggish labor or its complete cessation
  • Premature detachment of a normally located placenta
  • Threatened uterine rupture
  • Acute hypoxia

But do not rush to worry: you will know all this in advance and discuss it with the doctor who will choose the best delivery option.

And if from the side of physiology this is all, then further, as they say, philosophy begins. Fear and even unwillingness to give birth in a natural way, from the point of view of the doctor, is not an indication for a cesarean section, but it has its own “against”, both for the mother and the child. Namely:

  • Risk of infection
  • Longer recovery period + suture and pain after anesthesia is released
  • Premature labor
  • The risk of developing problems with the respiratory system in a child
  • Intrauterine injury

Even if you were assigned a caesarean section, this does not mean that you should not prepare for childbirth: talk with experts, listen to all opinions and prepare for active participation in the birth of your baby, because this is one of the most important days in your of life.

Lazarevich Alla Eduardovna, obstetrician, gynecologist, City Clinic:

“The goal of each obstetrician is to get a healthy baby and a healthy mother, and if the doctor decides that this requires a cesarean section, he will better agree. For example, in a breech presentation, I would recommend caesarean, rather than natural childbirth - the risk is very great. If a cesarean section is planned - the obstetrician will wait for the onset of labor, labor, and thus the baby will be born in a more natural way. In this respect, of course, anesthesia is of great importance. Expectant mothers who are afraid to give birth themselves should communicate with a prenatal psychologist - the most intimidated and nervous mothers after appropriate training, natural childbirth goes off with a bang. ”

The experience of our members of the forum:

Dukaya: “My friend already in October will give birth to the third Kesarenka .... There was no disclosure with the first one, and the second and third were not old, so only Caesar's! Nothing, she does not get upset! If only healthy! "

LenaLi: “I have a second cesarean, the first emergency, the seam was very sloppy, but it did not hurt or bother. And after the second, six years later, when I touch, the seam hurts, and the press is painful to strain. ”
