Have you noticed memory deterioration and some distraction in the first trimester of pregnancy? Scientists explained what happens to the brain of a woman during this period, and whether it is worth worrying about the forgetfulness that appeared during pregnancy.
Perhaps, they have already managed to come across such a concept as “pregnant brain”. This is when there are dips in the memory of pregnant women, which previously, most likely, was not, the woman becomes distracted and forgetful. For example, you put milk in a cabinet instead of a refrigerator, go to a room a hundred times, forgetting why, looking for a mobile one, which you speak at the same moment, often where it’s unclear where you lose things, leave the tap on water, let go of the dog and forget to let in backetc.
(Especially funnywhen the eldest child somewhere in the store explains to the seller that his mother has a "pregnant brain", so she is strange. Thank you, kids. Although it is difficult to argue, of course.)
The usual thing - the brain begins to boil, and you do it without knowing what. Forgetfulness in pregnant women has another name - mamesia.
Good news is the norm, or rather, it's just biology. Studies show that the brain may shrink during pregnancy. Not that it is necessary to have a scientific confirmation, but it's nice to know that not only you have oddities, right?
A recent study published on the site found that pregnancy causes changes in the structure and size of the brain, which are not restored after birth.
In the course of the study, women underwent MRI of the brain before and after pregnancy. Postpartum images clearly indicated changes in the brain, especially a decrease in the amount of gray matter. The hippocampus, which is responsible for memory, also decreases. Therefore, we women, in the literal sense of the word, lose our heads! Well, that explains a lot.
The changes regarding the gray matter remained as they were and two years after the study. Who knows, maybe the brain has never returned to normal and does not come.It remains only to change the name of the "pregnant brain" to "mother's brain" and continue to live your life, forever accepting its "underdeveloped" state. (On the other hand, there are studies that suggest that women who have given birth have a better memory than expectant mothers)
But, there is a good side. Pregnancy also affects those areas of the brain that are responsible for feelings, empathy and horizons. Scientists believe that it enhances maternal instinct and contributes to the formation of mother's responsibility and communication with the child.
So, if you feel that your brain has turned into scrambled eggs, you are not alone! Now we at least know who to blame for the absent-mindedness of forgetfulness during pregnancy. Thanks, kids, we forgive you.
